Russian Railways sees high demand for Lastochka trains
MOSCOW, Jul 4 (PRIME) -- Demand for Lastochka trains of Ural Locomotives, a joint venture between Siemens and Russia’s Sinara Group, is high and may exceed the contracted amount of 1,200 rail cars, Dmitry Pegov, director for passenger transportation in Russian Railways, told reporters on Tuesday.
Russian Railways is in a U.S. $2 billion contract with Ural Locomotives for provision of 1,200 rail cars, or 240 Lastocka trains, until 2020.
“I think we will not stop at that, I feel it. There is high demand for trains now. Everyone felt the advantages of this rolling stock, they ask us for more,” Pegov said.
In 2017, Russian Railways plans to purchase 150 Lastochka rail cars, the same amount it bought in 2016.
